Iame Winter Cup: Spindlow leads Junior X30 on Saturday

The Iame international calendar kicked off with the winter cup in Valencia this weekend. With over 180 driver present across the three classes (Mini, Junior & Senior), great racing was assured.

There was a very strong British contingent present, which was clear to see in qualifying. Aaron Walker lead a top 7 full of British drivers, managing to out pace Alfie Rigby who topped the other qualifying session. They were followed by Bart Harrison, Freddie Slater, Freddie Spindlow, Arvid Lindblad and Daniel Guinchard. But as the heats played out, the order changed dramatically.

Topping the sheets with a single win was Freddie Spindlow, taking a pair of 2nds to seal the top spot. Guinchard had a pair of podiums to line up 2nd for the pre-final with 6 points. Having qualified 8th, home talent Santiago Vallve showed his pace by scooping a pair of podiums on route to 3rd with 7 points. Alfie Rigby was the only man to win a pair of heats, but had a disastrous final heat finishing down in 10th. His two wins were enough to give him 4th ahead of WSK talent Lindblad who scored 13.

Oli Pylka had a disastrous qualifying, leaving the Polish star down in 46th, but a series of impressive drivers saw him finish 2nd in his final heat. That was enough to give him 8th for the pre-final, well within range of a fantastic result. The same could not be said for pole sitter Walker. 5th and 2nd in his heats weren’t the results he would of been expecting, but a DNF in his final heat would leave him down in 15th. Freddie Slater had a similar fate, but by virtue of a heat win, he lines up 13th.

One driver that impressed here last year was Lucas Fluxa, challenging Freddie Slater for the win in the cadets. His Junior X30 debut wasn’t going to plan. He qualified 48th and finished a single heat inside the top 20. He would have to fight for a place in the pre-final in tomorrow’s 2nd chance heat.
